Turbine today becomes the newest watch brand from America! Their premier watch Turbine One is a collaboration with General Electric. The watch features a brand new quartz caliber designed and built in America and it is powered by wind energy.
John Kundo of Turbine says that “wind energy is quickly becoming more efficient than solar and it was only a matter of time before it began powering micro devices.” The bezel is a highly efficient wind turbine that rotates in the slightest breeze and captures the energy to charge the Li-Ion battery which powers the movement.
The high efficiency of the turbine allows the watch to generate a much higher current than traditional solar watches. The turbine only needs to spin for a few minutes a day to keep the watch running. This means it can do more than just run your watch. The watch has a micro USB port at 12 o’clock with a 5V-1.0A output for emergency phone charging. The small Li-Ion battery only stores enough energy to charge your typical phone about 10% but in a strong breeze it will charge a phone fully in about 1 hour.
Thanks to patents held by General Electric the turbine spins so quietly sometimes you don’t even realize its spinning. You can even sit in a meeting a spin the turbine bezel by hand without disturbing those around you.
